Lol that’s the thing with DSLRs. “Ooh that Nikon D80 is only $120. WAIT A MINUTE, the lens costs $1,000??????”

Glass is brutal. Also, I really miss my Canon 70-200 f/2.8.

That’s unfortunately how it is. I assume you’re looking at DSLRs?

I’ve never had a rangefinder camera, although I came close on a Mamiya 6. Don’t even know what’s in Leica’s range anymore ....

Decent-good glass has always been expensive.
I’m surprised that the delta between the bodies and lenses hasn’t shrunk more. Film bodies were exceptionally simple in comparison to digital bodies. Lenses, however, will probably be expensive until we have nanites producing them.

If so, they’re not Leicas...

I love mine. Can’t sell it because it’s probably my favorite lens and the main reason I will bother to carry my DSLR... Wide angle lenses are lame and there are very rarely occasions where I care enough about image quality to use my fixed glass.

I’m looking at a Leica M6. It’s a film rangefinder camera.

I’m looking at old film Leicas.

That’s almost the opposite of my view. My longest lens is a 50mm prime.

While I’m definitely open to other lenses everything I’ve read has said if you’re spending the money on a Leica body you should buy Leica glass.

Just looked at that lens and the price. Maybe non-Leica glass isn’t such a bad thing.

I recall that they were silly expensive. My last film camera was a Nikon F100. I still have a Mamiya C330 (the Diane Arbus camera) but I can’t seem to make it work, even after a checkup at a shop. I may need to load it to see if it fires.

Nice, I respect that. I still shoot with my Grandfather’s IIIc sometimes.
Notice the authentic 1950's German strap.

Leica don’t do SLRs that I know of although I’m open to correction. The OP was referring to an M6.

Holy shit I forgot range finders and SLRs are two totally different things. What a dumbass I look like now haha. But I thought you were just saying that digital Leicas weren’t real Leicas.

I got an old Leica Lens a while back, don’t remember the specs it’s not in front of me, for about $400 from a local store. The glass was fine on it, the body was well worn. I also use a Voightlander lens that is an M-Mount, so there’s another option for you. I’m still amazed at the deal that I got on my M6 last year or whenever it was.

I’ve been looking at the sold listings on ebay so it seems possible to get reasonable deals on the bodies. The lenses though look like they get a bit crazy.

The glass makes the photo, not the body.

I bought mine from BH Photo. What model are you looking at? Or just any Leica?

Here’s a thought. Have you looked at Nicca Cameras or Nikkor lenses. I’ve never had a Leica. But my first camera was like this and it worked wonderfully. It was a 50's japanese clone. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-TO…
A lot of Tri X Pan went through that camera for the High School Newspaper.

I’m in no rush to get a Leica. I was just looking because it seems like everyone who’s serious into film gets one eventually. I already have a rangefinder in mind though.

I had something similar to the olympus and I don’t think those lenses were interchangeable. It’s a good choice but not totally old school. If you have a hankering for a leica, a nicca is a really neat choice, same leica lens thread, same leica rolling plane shutter.
The Nicca is a Leica knockoff with the same feel and quality of the original. Which should not be a suprise as the makers ended up as Canon and Nikon.

Yeah, the olympus is just a fixed lens compact. I think it would make a great travel camera.
